Three of a Kind: Strange Worlds

Three of a Kind is a series that lists books, shows, movies, podcasts and even music that pair well together. Each post highlights a particular theme and lists fictional worlds (and music) that revolve around the theme. Starting the series with Strange Worlds because science fiction is my jam!

READ: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adam

Space + odd characters + a guide to space travel
Highlights: Towels are important in this world.

It starts with the world ending. Douglas Adam makes such vivid worlds and doesn’t miss a chance to poke fun at the oddities of Earth through good ol’ alien interactions. The rulebook ties it together. The imaginative world(s) in this book know no boundaries.

WATCH: Rick and Morty

Time and space travel + alternate realities + scientist grandfather
Highlights: An infinite number of alternate realities exist.

Rick and Morty is an animated show about a scientist and his grandson. What I love about the show is the sociopathic tendencies of the scientist and how it explores parallel universe, time travel and more. This is only a glimpse of the mind-blowing concepts the show reaches into.

LISTEN: SONGS BY DAVID BOWIE

Space Oddity + Ziggy Stardust + Moonage Daydream
Highlights: Goes perfectly with Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

I recommend everything by David Bowie. Upbeat, his music is full of life and sets the scene for you while reading Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

Any strange worlds you think would fit the bill? Tell me about it!

Launching this series after a month of fidgeting and planning. It was so much fun writing this and the upcoming ones in the series. I would love your suggestions and topics for future Three of a Kind posts. What would you like to see?

Ooh I actually really like this series! It’ll be a lot of fun to see what you come up with for each theme. My suggestions for topics? Hm… Well you know I gotta throw in villains. I’d like to see what you’d come up for that. And maybe… monsters/fantastical creatures?? Those are my favorite things.

I’m actually saddened that the only part of this trio I’ve experienced is songs by David Bowie. I’ve heard a lot of people talk about both The Hitchhiker’s Guide and Rick and Morty (Dave actually just liked the latter on Facebook today, what a coincidence, haha), but I haven’t checked either out myself. If they had Rick and Morty on Netflix here I’d give it a go since it sounds like something I’d like but it’s only on Hulu in the States, boo.

I’m so glad you like it!! 😀 Yes, villains will be fun to come up with; I have a bunch of choices but I can only use three sighh. =P I will attempt to serve 3 monster based fiction too. I can’t wait to get started on these! 😀

If you like satire, Hitchhiker’s is definitely your cup of tea.

Ooh Rick and Morty can be found for free online (places like fmovies. se if I’m not mistaken or movies 123). Now I’ll be anticipating your thoughts on it till you watch it 😀 (psst, Rick and Morty has a character with evil intentions, and you’ll be baffled because you’ll see the moral vs immoral argument in it)

Eep, I’m so glad you like it!! 😀

I initially had Stranger Things in this list but it lies more in paranormal, I felt. I’m still on the fence haha.
I have to read The Flight of the Silvers!
